  • The Oman tax authority confirmed its plan to introduce electronic invoicing for value added tax starting next year, with the system to be voluntary for taxable persons from April to September and becoming mandatory in October 2024. The first compliance  obligations under the plan are expected to apply to the largest entities operating in the country, a law firm reported. (LinkedIn)
  • France collected 183 billion euros ($193.9 billion) in value added tax on domestic transactions in 2022, up 8.1% from the previous year. The tax authority attributed the increase to a 13.8% increase in companies’ sales, and a 5.5% jump in inflation.   • The European Union should impose a special “temporary” 5% tax on the assets of the EU’s top 10% wealthiest to fund ecological transition policies, according to a report released by two members of France’s parliament. They say the tax, spread out over 30 years, could raise 150 billion euros. The Macron government is due to present its 2024 budget draft in the council of ministers on Wednesday, and Parliament is due to start debating it in early October.  (Le Parisien with Agence France Presse)
